Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of readthesignal.net (the "Site"), our newsletters, our account features, and any paid subscription tier (together, the "Service"). The Service is operated by The Signal ("The Signal", "we", "us").
1. Acceptance of These Terms
By accessing the Site, subscribing to the newsletter, creating an account or purchasing a paid subscription, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. What the Service Is
The Service is a financial media and research publication. It publishes articles, briefs, market data and commentary about publicly traded companies in the artificial intelligence, defense, space, cybersecurity, semiconductor, quantum computing and related sectors, and provides reader tools such as a stock scorecard, watchlists and an AI-assisted research assistant ("Pulse"). Some content and tools are available free of charge; others require a paid subscription. The Service is editorial and informational only.
3. No Investment Advice — No Adviser Relationship
Nothing on the Service is investment, legal, tax or accounting advice, and nothing on the Service is a recommendation, solicitation or offer to buy or sell any security, to open any account, or to adopt any investment strategy.
Our content is general, published commentary made available to all readers. It is not tailored to the financial situation, objectives, risk tolerance or needs of any individual reader. We do not know your circumstances, we do not know your portfolio, and we do not monitor it. No adviser, broker, fiduciary, agency or other special relationship of any kind is created between you and The Signal by your use of the Service, by reading our content, by subscribing to the newsletter, or by purchasing a paid subscription.
We are a publisher, not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer or financial planner, and we do not act in any such capacity. You are solely responsible for your own investment research and decisions, and you should consult a licensed professional who knows your situation before acting on anything you read here.
4. Accounts and Eligibility
You must be old enough to enter into a binding contract in your jurisdiction to create an account or purchase a subscription. You agree to provide accurate registration information, to keep your credentials confidential, and to accept responsibility for activity that occurs under your account. We may suspend or close an account that violates these Terms, and you may close your account at any time.
5. Accuracy, Availability and No Warranty
We work to make the Service accurate and current, but we do not warrant that any of it is accurate, complete, timely or error-free. Market data, prices, fundamentals, ratings and scorecard outputs may be delayed, interpolated, rounded or wrong, and may be corrected or changed without notice. Third-party data is provided as we receive it.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, accuracy and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure or free of errors or harmful components.
6. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Signal, its owners, editors, contributors and service providers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, savings, data, goodwill or opportunity, arising out of or relating to the Service, your use of it, your reliance on any content published on it, or your trading or investment decisions, whether the claim is based in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability or any other theory, and whether or not we were advised of the possibility of such damages.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars (US$100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
7. Premium Subscriptions, Billing and Renewal
Plans. Paid access is offered in subscription tiers, as described on our pricing page. The features included in each tier, and the price of each tier, are shown on the pricing page and at checkout. Subscriptions are for personal, non-commercial use.
Billing. Subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis (monthly, or annually where an annual plan is selected) through our payment processor, Stripe. By subscribing you authorise us and Stripe to charge your payment method for the amount shown at checkout, plus any applicable taxes, on a recurring basis until you cancel.
Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price for your tier, unless you cancel before the renewal date. We will email a receipt to the address on your account after each successful charge.
Trials. Where a free trial is offered for a tier (as described on the pricing page), you will not be charged during the trial period. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription begins and your payment method is charged at the applicable price. Cancel before the trial ends and you will not be charged.
Cancellation. You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation stops future renewals. Your access to paid features continues until the end of the billing period you have already paid for, and then ends. We do not charge a cancellation fee.
Price and plan changes. We may change prices or the contents of a tier. If a price increase applies to an existing subscription, we will give notice before it takes effect, and you may cancel before the increase applies.
Payment failure. If a payment fails, we may retry it and may suspend paid access until payment succeeds.
Refunds
Paid subscriptions are for digital content and tools that are made available to you immediately on purchase. If you are not satisfied with a paid subscription, you may request a refund by emailing [email protected] from the address on your account, and we will review the request in good faith.
Where a refund is approved, we will process it to the original payment method through Stripe; processing times are set by your card issuer or bank. Refunds are issued at our discretion except where a refund is required by law, and a refund does not entitle you to continued access to paid features after the refunded period is closed. Cancel before your renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period.
8. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Scrape, crawl, harvest or bulk-download the Service or its content, or access it with automated tools, except as permitted by our robots.txt file or with our written permission.
- Copy, republish, resell, redistribute or systematically mirror our content, including our paid content, in any medium.
- Share paid-tier access, credentials or content with anyone who is not a subscriber.
- Attempt to bypass metering, paywalls, rate limits or authentication, or probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the Service.
- Interfere with the operation of the Service, including by introducing malware or launching denial-of-service activity.
- Impersonate The Signal, its editors or contributors, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or company.
- Use the Service to break any applicable law, including securities laws, or to manipulate any security or market.
- Post unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful or privacy-infringing content where the Service allows user submissions.
We may suspend or terminate access, and remove content, if you breach these rules.
9. User Submissions
Where the Service allows you to submit content — for example a comment, a message to our editorial team, or feedback — you keep ownership of your content, and you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and reproduce it as part of operating and promoting the Service. You confirm you have the rights needed to submit it, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights or break any law.
10. Intellectual Property
The Service and its content — including our articles, briefs, commentary, ratings, scorecard outputs, graphics, logos, page design and code — are owned by The Signal or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws.
You may read, share and link to our articles for personal, non-commercial purposes, and you may quote short excerpts with clear attribution to The Signal and a link to the original page. You may not republish an article in full, resell our content, use it to train a machine-learning model, or present it as your own without our prior written permission.
Third-party company names, ticker symbols, logos and publication names referenced on the Service remain the property of their respective owners and are used for identification, commentary and news reporting only. See our Disclaimer for how we treat third-party sources and ratings.
11. Third-Party Services and Links
The Service links to third-party websites and relies on third-party services, including our payment processor and analytics provider. We do not control those third parties and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices. Your use of a third-party service is governed by that party's own terms and privacy policy.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time and may cancel any paid subscription from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate your access to all or part of the Service, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the Service or a feature. If we discontinue a paid tier you have prepaid for, we will refund the unused portion of the period you paid for.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent revision, and continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms. If a change is material, we will announce it on the Site or notify you by email before it takes effect.
14. Governing Law
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or to the Service are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and without regard to your place of residence.
15. Dispute Resolution; Arbitration; Class-Action Waiver
Please contact us first at [email protected] so we can try to resolve any concern informally before either side starts a formal proceeding.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you and The Signal agree that any dispute, claim or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved by final and binding individual arbitration rather than in court, and that you and The Signal each waive the right to a trial by jury and the right to bring or participate in any class, collective or representative action. The arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, and the hearing will take place in Los Angeles County, California, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
16. General
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our consent; we may assign ours, including in connection with a merger or sale of assets. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Disclaimer, are the entire agreement between you and The Signal about the Service.
